The roots of the company date from the 1960s when its predecessor, Vandervelden & Co. opened for business on Edmonds Street, Burnaby. 

Dave Fairhall bought the practice from Nick Vandervelden in 1981 when Mr. Vandervelden retired.  At the time, the firm occupied 7416 Edmonds Street.  In 1994 the present building was purchased as an accounting office. In 2008, Allan Zhang became a shareholder in the firm. Dave retired in 2022.

In 2011, Fairhall Zhang successfully merged with F. Davies Inc. in New Westminster, BC.

In 2014, Fairhall Zhang expanded its business to Richmond, BC by merging with Roger S. Chan & Associates Inc.
